Dr. Jake Chen is the Associate Director and Chief Bioinformatics Officer of the Informatics Institute, Professor of Genetics, and the chief of the Informatics Section of the Genetics Department at the UAB School of Medicine.
Chen has been studying bioinformatics—the science of collecting, representing, storing, retrieving, and processing data and knowledge for the improvement of human health—and advancing its use in academic, industrial, and entrepreneurial efforts since 1995
His research interests focus on systems biology, data mining, and advanced visual analytics for complex human disease applications. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed scientific papers and was named a finalist three times as “Indiana’s Technology Educator of the Year” since 2012.
